MCJC Community Covenant
We aspire to be a community which:
1. OPENNESS
Is welcoming to everyone who wants to participate. Makes many aspects of Jewish tradition, practice, and experience
available to people.
2. SPIRITUALITY
Encourages people’s spiritual and intellectual growth. Is celebratory and joyful.Promotes observance of Jewish traditions
and culture and strengthens Judaism as a way of life. Teaches children and adults about JudaismTeaches and
acknowledges Jewish values.
3. COMMUNITY CONDUCT
Comes together for each other as people experience life cycle events. Honors its workers. Honors its elders.
Honors its children. Is friendly and supportive when conducting business. Helps to provide basic needs for every Jew in this community.
Is fair and scrupulous.
4. PRESENCE IN THE LARGER COMMUNITY
Speaks well of the Jewish people by being good neighbors and community members. Activelypromotes peace in the
world, both locally and in the broader community. Combats AntiāSemitism.
Increases the awareness of Jews and Judaism in the larger community. Celebrates and teaches our civil rights
heritage and keeps it alive through the promotion of civil rights. Makes our tzedakah work visible in the community. Works with community groups to make food, shelter, and other necessities available to everyone who needs them.
Does tzedakah by working for justice as well as by giving charity. Openly explores our relationship with the state
of Israel and Jews in other lands.
